At the Women’s Therapy Center, we:
- Believe that real oppression of women based on gender as
well as class or race is a significant factor for the conflicts, low
self-esteem, and powerlessness reported by many women who seek
psychotherapy.
- Practice from a feminist perspective emphasizing a
socio-cultural and systems approach to psychological growth and change.
- Support women in an exploration of their inner resources
and recognize their capacity for nurturance and self-healing.
- Encourage the process of individual goal-setting and
support client goals that transcend sex-role stereotyping.
- Work toward being open about our own values and attitudes,
and affirm that matching women clients with feminist therapists is
often most therapeutic for women.
- Acknowledge that psychotherapy, per se, is not a cure-all,
and encourage women to consider other avenues for growth and support
instead of or in addition to the therapeutic experience.
